There are all kinds of emergencies out there that we can prepare for. Take a zombie apocalypse for example. That’s right, I said z-o-m-b-i-e a-p-o-c-a-l-y-p-s-e. You may laugh now, but when it happens you’ll be happy you read this, and hey, maybe you’ll even learn a thing or two about how to prepare for a real emergency.

 

If zombies did start roaming the streets, CDC would conduct an investigation much like any other disease outbreak. CDC would provide technical assistance to cities, states, or international partners dealing with a zombie infestation. This assistance might include consultation, lab testing and analysis, patient management and care, tracking of contacts, and infection control (including isolation and quarantine). It’s likely that an investigation of this scenario would seek to accomplish several goals: determine the cause of the illness, the source of the infection/virus/toxin, learn how it is transmitted and how readily it is spread, how to break the cycle of transmission and thus prevent further cases, and how patients can best be treated. Not only would scientists be working to identify the cause and cure of the zombie outbreak, but CDC and other federal agencies would send medical teams and first responders to help those in affected areas (I will be volunteering the young nameless disease detectives for the field work).

The U.S military would have to play a part also like cordon off infected areas and screen infected people and depending on how severe the outbreak and how dangerous the disease deadly force may be authorized.

I just saw that someone had posted to this thread and it brings me to this bath salt thing, or the guys eating faces and cutting their on flesh throwing at police...these are all real stories....ZOMBIES....this thread has just been re-invented for me

I recommend watching the movies Contagion and Blidness to obtain a view of this subject.  These movies are not about Zombies but about actions that could be taken in the case of an outbreak.  I am employed in the arena of sustainment and mitigation etc.  I have learned plenty being exposed to, writing and advising on action plans and the likes.  I was really surprised to learn of the chain of command from the federal government agencies to the state and county or local governments.  This thread is definately worth while.

I was invited to some sort of zombie training thing. I thought it would be some sort of role playing paintball fight so I shrugged it off.

What exactly is being defined as a zombie? And who is to say "they" will not define any target they desire annihilated as a "zombie" to simply have a license to kill?
