What does "Mensa" mean?

The word "Mensa" means "table" in Latin. Mensa is a round-table society, where race, color, creed, national origin, age, politics, educational or social background are irrelevant.

- from https://www.mensa.org/about-us (emphasis above on "race" is mine)

I do not see any person of color in their site pictures; and it is glaring that there is only one chapter on the African Continent - and one would guess correctly that this chapter is in South Afrika.

So this is a huge question to explore!

This is also an infuriating search; in trying to search for "Mensa Minority Membership" the first link that seemed to reference anyone of color... on the second page of results... before I had realized what I had clicked, I was on a neo-fascist site.

I feel sick.

Another very eye-opening question, Dr. Black. Their official statistics at http://www.us.mensa.org/learn/about/demographics/ give no "color" breakdown, per their statement that such things do not matter.

But clearly they do; as the best discussion I am coming across is a response to a very RACIST question by a member of Mensa - Denmark.  Here is that RESPONSE to the racist:

"School studies focus on attainment by race to uncover learning gaps, and it is often in these environments that differences are observed locally which point to many factors that relate to cultural heterogeny that shape a willingness to learn, nutritional attainment, societal impacts on self worth value and ability to contribute perceived by the individual as a result,  all of which are heavily linked with poverty and indeed racism and harmful psychological perceptions or effects from exclusion that further complicate these issues. If you imagine what a child goes through when bullied at school, there is evidence for a remarkable similarity in effects and outcomes between that and these other pressures mentioned.

It would therefore in these western cultures be no  surprise that those foreign and with lower cultural appropriation of local values will indeed experience a relatively lackluster performance under the circumstances and if you extrapolate this further you begin to see also how this will apply to membership levels within groups like Mensa amongst whose members a willingness to join is indeed a product of some cultural appropriation that comes with limited exposure of some if not all of the pressures above."

Again. More infuriating.

We will talk in class.

I thank you for the re-direction in class, and for the opportunity to be an example for others.

I was instantly reminded of my childhood teacher, Yoda - and my first role-model, Luke. The path of the dark side is quick, but ever will it shadow one's destiny.

You are in a good place!!!
