DIALOGUE AND DISCUSSION ON EDUCATION, ENVIRONMENT AND RACE

THIS IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT

Learning about words:

I need help in determining what these words mean.

Detect / detection

I have received a number of e-mails asking about different words that students have an interest in understanding in greater detail.  I figure that it may be of worth-value that we look at some learning strategies and methods, together, in an effort to reach as many learners as possible.

When looking at a word, the reader should never take it (the word) for granted.  Are you absolutely sure that you know all of the elements of the word. If not, you just might get into the habit of fooling yourself about what the word is the symbol for, in a particular context.  Located in the education forum is a post that is called Learning Resources. Here you will find a dictionary, a site for etymology and a link to wikipedia.  I hope that no one will allow themselves to become all-reliant on electronic data-reference for answers.  The computer and internet reference should only be used for comparative analysis.  If there is a prefix or suffix in the composition of the word, do you know what this part of the word means and how it is being used in the composition of the words that have been created?  Use the dictionary to research definitions—the etymology site to research original concepts and wikipedia to expand your look at elements and context.

Please comment on the break down of these words!!!

This must not be very important since there is so little use taking place.  Unused threads will vanish!!!!

I will look into this!  Are you suggesting that one needs to make sure to identify prefixes and suffixes attached to a word or words?

yes, and there is a prefix, root and suffix page either in the blogs or under education in the forum tab.

And now we are getting to the real work!
