Usually read out in English as "for example" (see citation signal and compare how the ampersand is read out as "and"). Often confused with id est (i.e.).[7] Exempli gratiā, "for example", is usually abbreviated "e.g." (less commonly, ex. gr.); in this usage it is sometimes followed by a comma, depending on style.[8]
