Why do I never hear, those ones who say they know, talk about this person and the history that he created.

Now that we are here at this point....this may be the time for us to research this person>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Loren_Katz

This information is a must research for yourself kind of Epistemology process.

This person was brought to our attention because of a conversation about the origins of the taxicab...

I can not recall while growing up ever hearing about Canada connected with the Underground Railroad.  Reading some information about the Blackburn Riots of 1833 provided me with a different perspective of those relative to me and their will to physically fight to remain free.

Nor do we hear anything about Mexico, and, people going South rather than North!

Maybe we can learn how to listen by the study of this person>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Bowser

Very interesting, Mary Bowser became a spy to infiltrate the confederacy to access to top-secret information and assumed the name "Ellen Bond".  Made me think of Mr. 007.  Ellen Bond was a slow-thinking, but able, servant, which reminded me of the movie KIM.

Peace Adisa,

While reading this I had the same thoughts that you have. It also stated that her writings influence Ulysses S. Grant's presidency as well.

Another thing that always seems to stand out through out this whole "People we may need to know about" thread is the way people of color have been educated early on in history. By reading and starting to understand the history or education and public education then reflecting on my past and present education. I can see how it was and still is a major shift  towards people not to be educated in a way that learning can be beneficial or acquiring a skill. This artical stated that she had a photographic memory and intelligence after being educated in Quaker school. One thought that comes to mind is that education was valued back then and now it's moved to a thought that "if a person who can display some intellect and make people believe in what they are saying was gifted from birth." This is the level of thinking that I'm hearing on a daily basis. Early childhood education is really important, but having fancy names and creating fancy programs has not work! Maybe it's time to go back to the basics and this has been suggested for many years but let's really look at what the basics are and have they been taught to the people? One of the things that I have learned from Dr.Black is " as long as you teach that the letter A means apple you will forever be mis-educating the people."

Peace lord, I hear you.  If people around you actually care about their children and their education, they will take the steps you have with your little ONE!

This is a sound frequency and I am glad that i can get reception!
