why is there so little known about this aspect of historical events?

B.

I do not know why this is not very well known, so many only have knowledge of the so called Jewish Holocaust and this occurred nearly 30 years prior.

@Adisa---It is more than important that you are a part of this thread---the why will dawn on you later.

How come we did not know about these Herero people.

It is considered African history. Since we are in America the focus is on the "United States". I have never even heard of this in World History which mainly covers various civilizations as opposed to the history of more recent (after the calendar...georgian.) I think if it were known integration probably would not have had a chance...This is all conjecture by the way...

"We" do not know about these people, because we chose not to look for ourselves.  Its not deemed important unless it is taught.  Perhaps another reason is because as with most information provided in the US, information provided is given to preserve the thought of US as a necessary means to continue the American dream, patriotism, the bringers of democracy and freedom to the rest of the world.  This appears to be the same point of view to deem people as living in third world countries.

It appears some people from "Muslim" countries may soon be facing this same concentration camp/internment camp scenario, if it has not already taken place.

Adolph von Hansemann (27 July 1826 — 9 December 1903) was an Imperial German businessman and banker.

In 1884, the New Guinea Company was founded in Berlin by Adolph von Hansemann and a syndicate of German bankers for the purpose of colonizing and exploiting resources on Neu Guinea (German New Guinea),[2] where German interest grew after British Queensland's annexation of part of eastern New Guinea. This expedition was with the knowledge and blessing of the German Chancellor, Count Otto von Bismarck, and with secrecy and speed an expedition was fitted out under Dr Otto Finsch, ornithologist and explorer.  Finsch's task was to select land for plantation development on the north-east cost of New Guinea and establish trading posts.[2]

The Disconto-Gesellschaft (full name: Direction der Disconto-Gesellschaft), with headquarters in Berlin, was founded in 1851. It was, until its 1929 merger into Deutsche Bank, one of the largest German banking organizations.  The Disconto Gesellschaft was founded in 1851 as a “credit partnership,” and in 1856 was changed into a limited liabilityjoint-stock company under the name of “Direktion der Disconto-Gesellschaft,” with a capital of 30,000,000 marks. Its founder was David Hansemann, later Prussian Minister of Finance. Its purpose and earliest activities were in the fostering of current account business and the underwriting of German state and local loans and railway shares.  The Disconto-Gesellschaft funded the Central Line in German East Africa and the Shantung Railroad in the German concession ofKiaochauChina. Construction of his Otavi Railroad in German South-West Africa coincided with the Herero genocide there.
