ONLY WHEN YOU HAVE COME TO KNOW THE VOICE BEHIND THE MASK CAN YOU BEGIN TO FEEL THAT YOU ARE STARTING TO KNOW WHO THE PERSON MIGHT BE!!!! (What think you of this thought)
Too many of us hide behind superficial masks and pretend to be something or someone we are not. True transformation comes from a persons willingness to remove his mask and be authentically real with himself. When a man discovers his true identity he no longer has to hide behind his material possessions or sex or any other addiction, because he is completely happy and content with who he is. This is the truth that will set him free but most men are too afraid to embrace this fact. It's been said that we must "Be not conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind" and that is the key to unlocking our true potential. Change your mind and change your life.
Brother Michael, looks like you are describing the function of the ego again. It has to identify with something to stay alive. I has to project something different onto others to feel good about itself. It needs labels to remain extant. Being can be a scary thought especially when one has been indoctrinated into a system of doing.
Without question Ego is the source of our need to impress others. It isn't until we learn to become aware of the ego in it's myriad of forms that we can move past Ego and connect to our authentic selves. If we are courageous enough to do this we will then discover our Authentic Self which is the source of all creativity and inspiration. When we connect with this Authentic Self, we are literally communing with God. Once this is accomplish there is never a need to pretend to be someone or something that we are not.
It may be useful to check the etymology of the word PERSON and also look into what cap. Ahab said about Moby. Some times if you do the elementary work before the journey, you may be able to dodge the long and winding yellow brick road.

Be and you are. B. The question, "To be or not to be, that is the question, itself provokes a lot of thought. How did I come not to be? When? What were the circumstances? What are the processes of being? What are the requirements? Why can't I just be? Is there a difference between being and doing? How will one know if they have become?
Getting comfortable with that voice and not being frightened of it was the first impediment. I suspected something was there outside of the chatter I normally hear in my head. Sometimes I take it to dinner and we chat. The other day while driving past a cotton field in rural Arkansas we spoke about the relativity of time. What a wonderful time to be alive.
I once heard a person whose life mission it is to shock people back to their authenticity say, "Our language does not give us access to ourselves." As a person who does this work globally, she was speaking about all human languages.
This is why it is so difficult to even ask the question To Be or Not To Be. Language is indeed the type of technology to project this question but its destination is a place where language can not go.
Doesn't the important path towards BE-ING, lead us to the point of not BE-ING apart of this world? By this world,...I mean the reality that man has created us TO BE.
