As I recall when the stuff started to hit the fan they called a meeting in the church and the preacher was the first one to falter. Sylvester tells him we aint got time for none of that now. In real life Sylvester was a hunter and a crack shot, so was his father who was away hunting during the days of the incidents. Most of the residents in Sumner were afraid of them both. The book suggests that the hunt for the escaped convict was actually an excuse to mob up and kill Sylvester and his father. According to the book Sylvester didn't make it any better by sending dares to the mob.

I too saw the of cowardice of the men hiding out and then endangering the women and children on the train and though the scene was fictitious, it was and is an apt description of lots of so called black people. In real life the train ride was uneventful, it was not chased and no one was shot or killed as a result of it carrying the women and children away.

The real problem is still all of those MFers that have been hiding in the forest that keep trying to hijack the train in order to make their escape. The news hour rebels hollering out "Black Power"...they are an even bigger problem than the sams and righters.

Lumumba, I actually went to the site that used to Rosewood and went into Sumner. It was real erie. The best book I have read on the issue was entitled, "Like Judgment Day" . The incident has fascinated me since I first read about it so I made it my business to do my own research. I agree the movie captured the attitude of the times though in many instances it was not accurate. There was no character named Mr. Mann, Aunt Sarah was shot in the head through the window and in all probability Sylvester got killed.

However I still watch it every time it comes on. In fact I think it should have won an Oscar for Best Picture.

The movie I think was great in capturing some of the things that happened in Rosewood.
