If you go back a bit further an examine the Opium Wars in China, you will see how the British usurped the government of China and took possession of ports in the name of the Queen! Other European nations actually had a conference to carve up Africa...colonial imperialism!
It is interesting to see the way the continent was carved as it relates to language, natural resources, strategic ports, interior, etc. What do borders/boundaries really mean? Whose borders/boundaries are they? Seems so vane and criminal! Instead of a British wedding their should be a trial for lying, deceit, theft and rape of a continent!!

The Berlin Conference of 1884–85 regulated European colonization and trade in Africa during the New Imperialism period, and coincided with Germany's sudden emergence as an imperial power. Called for by Portugal and organized by Otto Von Bismarck, first Chancellor of Germany, its outcome, the General Act of the Berlin Conference, is often seen as the formalization of the 'Scramble for Africa'. The conference ushered in a period of heightened colonial activity on the part of the European powers, while simultaneously eliminating most existing forms of African autonomy and self-governance.
Today we see a regressive tendency among African nations that is a direct result of the partition of the continent by European governments.

For those who are interested--look up the 1914 map that was created and you will see that this was the start of the partition of the African continent for Eropean colonialism. Once you have the capacity to figure this out for yourself, then, you will begin to understand what has happened and why!!! This is important for those who really want to know.
