"Do you remember the time!"

Does anyone remember the times when people of color could only go to the basements of major department stores and shop?  Or the times when people of color could only go to the balcony at certain theaters to watch movies?  Growing up in St. Louis, I vaguely remember those times.  I grew up thinking it was normal to shop in the basement at Famous Barr and Stix, Baer and Fuller.  I thought that the balcony was, automatically, where we liked to sit at Loew's State and the Fox Theaters.  I was…
