Cookie, Namaska dear, you must always be aware of context.  John Hanson was NOT a president of the United States of America.  The USA had not come into existence at the time of 1781. If it will help we can discuss in class.

According to Pan-Africanist Ali Mazuri, who states  "President Obama is the first Black president of the western world."

After viewing the video and researching my class notes, wiki, webster etc. I find this information to be rather puzzling coming from such an intellectual (giant) scholar as Mr. Mazuri. Ms. Amy the narrator asked the question a second time for clarity. Being sure of his answer (Mazuri) without error, and very confident that President Obama is the first African American President.  The abstract time line should shead some understanding to the mis-conception concerning the First African American President. TIME-LINE:  John  Hanson was elected president of the USCA on 

November 05, 1781 to Novenber 11, 1782. making him the 3rd president serving under the Articles of Confederation; after Samuel Johnston declined the position. Thereby, becoming the first Black President of this country.  George Washington was not/never the first president of this country as so many of us was taught in the elementary schools. George Washington, according to research was the 11th president. Can we do the math and see that 10 other men were elected as president  prior to George Washington .  Many might remember the First President Song.

                                          the first president, the first president                                     

                               George Washington was the first president, of the USA...........

 this was not good; not because we sanged this song every day, but it was a lie..

Maybe we can search deeper into Mazrui's thoughts as to his actually meaning of Pres. B.Obama being the first Af. Am. President past the western world.
