Was Jesus Christ a Negro.....this is one of those topics where I must be careful not to insert my opinion!  I would have really enjoyed my time in Europe had I known about this information when I was there.  I have seen the images of the so called black savior and virgin mother and black Madonna.  I have even learned of a particularly large Christian ceremony that occurs in the Philippines.  The Black Nazarene or  Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno in Española involves a procession of a life sized dark wooden sculpture of Jesus Christ carrying the cross, while representing his passion and suffering and is believed to be miraculous by many Filipino Catholics.  Similar to the explaining away the complexion as described by Mr. Jackson in his review; it is believed the Black Nazarene originally had a fair complexion, but turned dark after the statue survived a fire on the galleon ship bringing it from Mexico.  My question is if the candles and a would be fire damaged these sacred relics, why then has no one decided to restore them to their said original form?  Despite the "new" appearance of the sculpture, several million people gather in the streets in hopes of even catching a glimpse of the sculpture.

As is pointed out in the closing sentences of the review, I truly wonder how many people, especially including those I am relative to, would line the streets just to catch a glimpse of a life sized image of a black Jesus.  How many "devoted" Christian folk even know of writings, sculptures and/or images as described?  Even better how many know but as Mr. Jackson eluded to find it more comforting or pleasing to ignore and continue to worship an image that does not reflect what they see looking back at them in a mirror.  Is if even important or worthwhile knowing something about the information provided by Mr. Jackson?
