I will just say before I read that I often wondered why people stopped getting genotype tests before getting married or having children...

Maybe a discussion about genotype test would be appropriate.

What is really crazy about Sickle Cell is that it is often characterized as a "black" disease. I did not find out I had the trait until I went into the military. They had separated us from everyone else, and I thought I must have a STD cause white folks don't have SC!( There were several in the group, however, it was mostly brown skinned). They did not call theirs SC they called theirs G6PD. I met a lady here(in Memphis) that had thalassemia trait, and she said her doctor asked her,"What are you doing with that? It's a black person's disease.) true story.  I 'll tell anyone, watch out how you allow someone to categorize you. There is always a need for a new illness, it makes them money!
