Republic and Democrat

I want to make sure I understand the meaning of these words. If I am not correct please correct me. Based on the definition of republic the word is a noun the same goes for the word democracy. Republic broken down is res-thing + publica- public. Does this define the word as a Public thing? Based on the definition of democracy demos-people + krateein- to rule. Does this Define the word democracy as to rule people? Now from what I see is that we live in a democracy. How does one gain access to freedom?

Namaska Ari, Democracy is literally "Rule by the Mob".  The Mob is thought of as the People.  Doing this work is more than what most people are prepared to do.  We are going to have to sit down together and learn how to work the problem.
