France and Spain had established territories in what was to become Florida.  Great Britain gained control of the Florida territory after the defeat of France in the Seven Years War.

Following the Treaty of Paris, which ended the American Revolutionary War, East and West Florida was ceded to Spain from Great Britain.

Circa 1817 Andrew Jackson, led an invasion in the territory of Florida, starting what was to become the First Seminole War.

Shortly after Spain ceded control of the territory to the United States. After gaining control of the area, now President Jackson pushed for the Indian Removal Act which led to the Second Seminole War.

Sometimes I wonder how with so much to learn and know I never was introduced to any of this in school.
