How long has this been on the table and where does it stand at this point.

Phyllis Schafly was vocally opposed at least as of 2008; the John Birch Society continues to monitor it as a socialist endeavor (current website here: http://www.jbs.org/issues-pages/north-american-union). 

This facebook group in opposition to the concept has 900 members. (https://www.facebook.com/groups/stopthenorthamericanunion/members/)

A search for "Status of North American Union" gave me more links to different non-mainstream sites than I could have imagined.  In terms of corporate imperialism and neoliberal international trade-deals that posit the marketplace as the end-game of human existence, what difference is their really between such a politically defined union and the already existing union between international monies in the boardroom and the stock (holding pens) and bonds (slaves) exchanges?
