DIALOGUE AND DISCUSSION ON EDUCATION, ENVIRONMENT AND RACE

What if the first light in Genesis wasn’t the Sun… but the spark between fire and water?

✨ Before the Sun — A Reflection on Genesis

For much of my life, I assumed the Genesis story began with the creation of the Sun, linking the first day of creation to the first day of the week — Sunday.
It seemed simple enough: “Let there be light.” Light must mean the Sun, right?

But when I looked closer, something didn’t align.
According to the text, the Sun and Moon weren’t created until what’s called the fourth day (Genesis 1:14–19). That realization didn’t challenge faith — it invited inquiry. It urged me to seek not what I was told to believe, but what might actually be known.

Later, while studying ancient symbols and company logos, I came across the hexagram — a symbol used by many civilizations, known by different names, yet built upon the same form: two interlocking triangles, one pointing up, one pointing down.

The downward-pointing triangle represents the divine feminine, associated with water and earth — the receptive, nurturing principles.
The upward-pointing triangle represents the divine masculine, associated with fire and air — the active, ascending forces.

Genesis begins with God creating heaven and earth — an echo of these two forces, the balance of opposites.
Then, “the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.”
Water — the feminine principle — becomes the field of creation, the womb of potential.

When God said, “Let there be light,” I began to see that light not as the Sun, but as Fire — the first spark, the awakening of energy within matter.
Fire gives light, and light reveals form.

This, to me, is the hidden balance in the Genesis story — the union of duality, the meeting of Fire and Water, masculine and feminine, heaven and earth, darkness and light.
And when balance was achieved, the text says simply, “And it was good.”
