I'm very interested in the progress of your straw bale garden.  I wonder if earthworms could live in there, or if they even eat straw.  They would definitely speed up the composting process and provide fertilizer in the form of castings.  The environment is right, dark and wet, but I would be concerned about the sharp ends of the straw impaling their soft skin.

Beginnings of the straw bale garden.  I have been watering these bales with water from my tilapia tank for just over 2 weeks.  We also had some snow and plenty of rain to keep them wet as well.  This moisture assists turning the inside of the bales into compost.  I will fertilize begin fertilizing and continue watering until I am ready to plant starter plants in them.
