DIALOGUE AND DISCUSSION ON EDUCATION, ENVIRONMENT AND RACE

The fourth element captured in the hexagram — symbolized by an upward-pointing triangle intersected by a horizontal line — is Air.
Air is a masculine principle, and it quietly carries the attribute of the other masculine principle: Fire. When you exhale, you feel the warmth of your breath — the subtle heat of the inner spark. Fire animates the breath; air carries the fire.
The ancients associated air with consciousness, communication, and intellect — the unseen qualities that move thought into expression. And in the biblical narrative, it is air that transforms form into being: “…and God breathed into the nostrils of man the breath of life, and man became a living soul.”
Two masculine principles. Two feminine principles. Each distinct, each necessary, each balancing the other within the geometry of the hexagram.
Symbolically, the number four represents stability, structure, and completion — reflected in the four elements, the four seasons, and the four directions. Air completes the circle of the classical elements, bridging the physical and the spiritual through breath, voice, and awareness.
